Pelourinho
Largo de São Tiago - 5300 Bragança
Pelourinho
One of the most peculiar pillories of Portugal, the one at Bragança, erected within the
castle, is a granite construction formed by a column ending in a decorated cross and standing on an imposing figure known as
Porca da Vila («Town's Sow»), all this set on a base with four steps.
The pillory is probably from the 13th century and is more than six metres high; the pig statue, similar to others at Murça and Torre de Dona Chama, is certainly older.
