Castelo de Folgosinho

Rua do Castelo - Folgosinho - 6290 Gouveia

Castelo de Folgosinho
Built probably in 1183, by the King Sancho I, at the top of one hill of the Serra dos Galhardos mountains, 930 metres high and dominating the valley of the Mondego river, the old Castelo de Folgosinho was probably erected over the remains of a previous Lusitanian citadel.

What can be seen nowadays is a revivalist castle, with circular walls, square tower and cylindrical watchposts, built in 1938/39 without any documentation to support it.

Meanwhile, the magnificent panorama that can be enjoyed from the site more than makes for the journey.
