Pelourinho
During the Middle Ages, a town´s pillory was an important site: it was there the king´s and the local authorities´ decisions were announced, as well as the courts´ verdicts and where justice was applied.

The pillory of Belmonte, destroyed in the 19th century, was rebuilt in the eighties (20th century) and it depicts an oil-press.
