Igreja de São Vicente
According to the legend, it was here that Dom Pedro and Dona Inês de Castro were married.
The Igreja de São Vicente has been considered of Romanesque origin, while other authors see it as a Gothic temple.
In the 16th, 17th and 18th century, it was subject to remodellings and enlargements, for its degradation, for its location in a square used for many different functions, including bull fighting, and because it was home to the brotherhood of Saint Christ.
Outside, one should note the Mannerist portal and, inside, the St.
Christ chapel (17th century); in the Baroque period, gilded woodwork invaded the master chapel, an artistic movement to turn the temple into a
Domus Aurea (golden house).
Equally noteworthy is the tile panel of 1929, commemorating the proclamation by General Sepúlveda that set in motion the popular insurgency against the French invasion, in 1808.
