Faro Island
Faro Island
The islands of
Ria Formosa are one of Faro's ex-libris.
The closest to the city is eight kilometres away, in the direction of the airport: an extensive sand strip known as «Faro beach».
Access is made through a bridge, by car or in one of the buses that circulate all day between the city and the island (a 15-minute trip).
It has excellent conditions for the practice of nautical sports (jetski, surf, windsurf, sailing...), and centers and clubs of many.
Other popular islands are the
Lighthouse Island and the
Culatra Island.
Farther away and less accessible, they are calmer and solitary, apealling to those who like to feel that the sea belongs to them.
The Barreta Island is a true paradise for those who like isolation.
It can only be reached by boat, but there are no regular public lines.
The solution is to rent one to take you there.
