Largo Coronel Morais Sarmento - 2560 Torres Vedras

URL: Castelo

Castelo
Built by the Alans, it was later enlarged by the Moors and repaired several times at the hands of different monarchs, like kings Fernando (14th century) and Manuel I (16th century); after the 1755 earthquake, it needed new repairings, but these were never made.

Later, it was also part of the defensive Torres Lines, and in 1846 it served as a base to the troops of the count of Bonfim, which aggravated its state of conservation, due to the explosion of the powder room.

Its walls shelter the Church of Saint Mary.
