Santo Amaro Chapel
Built by the brotherhood of Conceição (conception) from 1601 onwards, this small temple was always frequented by the royalty; king Manuel I (15th/16th centuries), a strong devout of Saint Amaro, was already a regular worshiper of the small ermitage that existed here before.
Rebuilt in the 18th century, the present chapel features a single nave with paintings depicting the life of the Virgin, and a chapel whose pictures evoque her death and assumption, with frescoes in the rococo style by the Italian artist João Grossi.
Opening hours: monday to friday, from 2 pm to 5.30 pm.
This chapel is also known by the names of Igreja da Misericórdia de Oeiras (Oeiras Misericord Church) and Capela de Nossa Senhora da Conceição e Santo Amaro (Chapel of Our Lady of the Conception and Saint Amaro).
