Pereiro: Festival of Our Lady of Health
Pereiro: Festival of Our Lady of Health
The population of the village of Pereiro spends practically all the year making plastic flowers to decorate their streets by the time of the Festival of Our Lady of Health, which takes place on the weekend of the last sunday of August.
The village streets are adorned with thousands and thousands of multicolored flowers: the sky gets invisible and the ground is shaded, which is always good in the summer.
The culminating point of the religious festivities takes place on Sunday, with a solemn Mass followed by a procession of the patron saint of the village through the adorned streets.
Since the float is very heavy, sixteen persons are required to carry it, which in this way pay promises made throughout the year.
The festival has also a pagan side, with musical performances lasting until daybreak.
