Lisbon Geological Museum
Belonging to the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology, Museu Geológico de Lisboa features the country's best and most comprehensive collection of fossils, notably of dinosaurs, trilobites, amonites and Tertiary mammals; also noteworthy is its collection of pre-historic archaeological findings, with items ranging from the Paleolithic to the Roman period.

The museum was formed when the Geological Commission of the Kingdom, founded in 1857, was installed, two years later, in the second floor of the old Jesus Convent (from the 17th and 18th centuries), where it has been since then, and where the Portuguese Geology and Archaeology were born.

Its collections (paleonthology, stratigraphy, archaeology and mineralogy) are the most representative in Portugal, and have significant scientific interest as reference and research material, being the object of study by tens of foreign and national experts every year.

Opening hours: tuesday to saturday (except holidays), 10 am to 5 pm.
