According to some historians, it was here the Portuguese king Dom Manuel I married in 1500 his second wife, the Spanish princess Dona Maria.

The Beautiful Manueline Portal dates from its foundation, as well as the magnificent font shaped like an inverted royal crown inside.

The ancient church now houses the Archaeological Museum.
