Monsanto: Manor-houses

Monsanto: Manor-houses
The Rua Marquês da Graciosa, the main street of Monsanto, exhibits at least three remarkable buildings: at the entrance, the Post Office, a skilful blend between the primitive stones and the necessary adaptation to its new functions.

A little further away, on the left, the Manor-house of the Pinheiro family, built in the 18th century.

Besides the coat of arms, the façade exhibits a fountain on the façade, the «Chafariz do Mono».

From the same period, the manorial house a few yards away, on the right, now lodges the Tourism Office: it once belonged to the family of Giraldes de Andrade, the village´s governor, and displays his coat of arms.
