A second residence of the Cabrais family, it was built in the 18th century to replace the palace they inhabited at the castle, severely damaged by a fire in the previous century.
The crest now exhibited on the façade dates from the 19th century.

Located on the hillside of Serra da Esperança, near Belmonte, where the sailor Pedro Álvares Cabral was born, it has its origins in the reconstruction of the ruined Convent of Nossa Senhora da Esperança, where there is also a small chapel from the 13th century.
