A modern construction, it was built in the 20th century (decade of 40).
Its most valuable asset is the quattrocentist statue of Our Lady of Hope which, according to the legend, accompanied the navigator Pedro Álvares Cabral on the voyage in which he discovered Brazil.

Located on the hillside of Serra da Esperança, near Belmonte, where the sailor Pedro Álvares Cabral was born, it has its origins in the reconstruction of the ruined Convent of Nossa Senhora da Esperança, where there is also a small chapel from the 13th century.
