Museu de Arte Popular
Inaugurated in 1948, the exhibits are mostly from this century and include handicrafts collected for the Portuguese Popular Art Exhibition, held in Geneva in 1935.
The original building, created by the architect Veloso Reis for the Portuguese World Exhibition (in 1940), was entirely remodelled by the architect Jorge Segurado so as to lodge the new museum.
The exhibits are arranged by province and the display of the collections clearly indicates the artistic and aesthetic notions of the New State (oppressive regime founded in 1933).
