Museu Alberto Sampaio
Created to house the artistic patrimony belonging to the former Collegiate of Our Lady of the Olive Tree and of other churches and convents of Guimarães, it stands in the historical centre at the site where the countess Mumadona ordered a monastery to be built in the 10th century.
It displays mainly religious art, but also includes valuable collections of goldsmithery (12th to 19th centuries), sculptures (13th to 18th centuries), paintings (17th and 18th centuries), decorated tiles (16th to 18th centuries), ceramics (17th to 19th centuries) and textiles (15th to 18th centuries).
The military tunic of king John I and the silver triptych offered by the same king to the Collegiate of Our Lady of the Olive Tree in the 14th century are the star exhibits of the museum.
