Elevador de Santa Justa
Built to transport passengers and goods between Rossio and the Largo do Carmo, the Santa Justa Lift never ceases to attract tourists visiting Lisbon as it commands splendid views of the Pombaline lower town.
The two cabins can carry 25 passengers each and the structure, inaugurated in 1902, is 45 metres tall.
It was created by Raul Mesnier de Ponsard, an engineer born in Oporto of French parents, although many think the project was made by Gustav Eiffel.
