Garcia de Resende House

Rua de São Manços, 29

Garcia de Resende House
Mostly known for its Manueline window in marble and granite, which is thought to have been created by Diogo de Arruda, the house of the chronicler and poet Garcia de Resende was altered for many times over the times, a fact that is confirmed by the exploration works which found various 15th-century structures.

It suffered great changes during the 19th century: the interior was remodelled and new decoration features were added.

The house rises around an interior courtyard; the main façade has a ground floor and a grand upper floor, but there is still another smaller storey slightly withdrawn.

The most remarkable feature is undoubtedly the window which stands out among the other houses.

It has a double recess with polylobed arches to which a new decoration was added in the 19th century.
