Republics
One cannot talk of Coimbra and of the student traditions without mentioning the «republics», the student lodgings which give birth to so many stories and which bear extraordinary names such as Ghosts, Scrape-the-Pot, Throw-off Republic or Royal Republic The-Hell-With-You, among many others.

They can be found in the Upper Town, at the Bairro Sousa Pinto, Couraça dos Apóstolos, Rua Joaquim António de Aguiar, Rua do Loureiro, Rua da Matemática and Rua de São Salvador.

One of the most famous is the Royal Republic of the Prá-Kys-Tão, instaled at the Casa da Nau (Vessel House), in the Rua das Esteirinhas.
