Almedina Door

Almedina Door
Also known as the Almedina Arch, it was the main entrance to the Medieval city and still leads today to the Upper Town.

Bearing witness to the Arab occupation, it was part of the fortified walls which defended the city, built along the Lisbon Wall and the present Ferreira Borges Street, and then delimiting the area where now stands the Machado de Castro National Museum.

Besides this gateway, the Barbacan Door, the Anto Tower and one tower in Casa de Sub-Ripas can still be identified in what remains of the walls.
