It is one of the four museum sections spread by the county´s parishes, which together aim to ilustrate its history.

Museu de Vaqueiros focuses the county´s economy, fundamentally based on agriculture and where the natural ressources play an essential rôle.

A rural house is reproduced, with the central fire-place around which all the domestic activities take place.

The alimentary habits are determined by the farmers´ products and are based on bread, honey, cheese, olive oil and pork meat, which is obtained after an ancestral ritual.

Up to our days, the «Hog´s Killing» is a festive occasion which gathers families and neighbours, as all the help is precious the cut the meat and prepare the cured meats.

This is the only time of the year when people can enjoy the delicious «moorish pap», made with corn flour introduced in the water where the «morcelas» (a kind of sausages) were previously cooked.

The best place to obtain information about this and the other museum sections of the county is at the Casa dos Condes, in Alcoutim.
