Mother Church of Giões
The present Igreja Matrix was originaly constructed in the 16th century.

Like many other churchs of small villages, the exterior is simple and humble, but it guards unexpected treasures.

Inside, the triple nave is separated by Dorian columns, and the main chapel´s retable is richly decorated with Neo-Classical woodwork.

The retables of the side chapels date from the 16th century, and on the ceiling there are religious paintings from the 18th century.

The collection of images which complete the decoration is remarkable, namely the sculptures of Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Relics, of the Apostle St Peter and of St Domingos.
