The classified site of
Fonte Benémola lies between the villages of
Querença and Tôr, at the Menalva valley, some three kilometres from the former.
Classified as a protected area, it includes aroun 400 hectares of lands which, due to their environmental characteristics, offer the best excursions by foot for those appreciate natural and wild sceneries.
The stream of Menalva favours the existence of a rich and varied flora, mainly of bushes and reed plots, and one feels in the air the perfume of wild rosemary.
Among the birds which chose this area for their habitat there are kingfishers, bee-eaters and herons; small fish and shellfish are the favourite menu of the otters.
Still waiting to be restored, there are old water devices all over the zone.
Scoop-wheels, water-wheels and water-mills are a proof of the ancient agricultural activity.
