Chaves – Thermal resort

A region of great beauty

Thermal waters at a constant temperature of 163 ºF, in Summer and Winter, the warmest of Portugal and of the Peninsula.

Suitable to treat chronic rheumatism, dyspepsia, biliary lithiasis and hepatic congestion, renal lithiasis, infertility and diabetes.

At a few miles from the Spanish border, Chaves has important monuments, such as: the Keep, dominating all the surrounding valley; Roman Bridge over the river Tâmega, 480 ft long and with 20 arches; Forts of St.

Francis and of St.

Neutel, with walls and moats which evoke deeds of the past; Mother Chruch and the Chapel of Our Lady of Sprouts, within the walls of St.

Neutel, where the festivities to celebrate the coming of Spring are held.
