Miserichord Church
Miserichord Church
Close to the Rua da Mouraria, Igreja da Misericórdia doesn´t escape the attentive visitor´s notice.
The building, whose origins date from the 16th century, has a dazzling ribbed Manueline portal.
The cross in front of the portal and the images of Christ and of Our Lady which decorate the church´s interior are also from this period.
The main chapel has a carved wood retable from the 18th century, where the visitor can admire two valuable sculptures from the 16th century, one made of alabaster; both came from the ancient Convento da Graça, of which little remains today.
