Nossa Senhora do Rosário

Nossa Senhora do Rosário
At about 10 km North of Almodôvar, Nossa Senhora do Rosário is a site including various points of interest.

Its origins are ancient, dating from the Megalithic period.

A dolmen from this age was found in the region, thus confirming its historical and archaeological interest.

The Mother Church, dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, exhibits fine frescoes inside; the Chapel of Our Lady of Snows is also worth visiting, as well as the windmills and the holy fountain in the environs.

The zone includes a tourist game reserve, a fact that influences and determines the local gastronomy.

Here you can find the famous hare soup or the "açorda de perdiz" (bread dish with partridge).

The first and the third week-end of August, when the Summer festivities are held, are ideal for tasting the local lamb stew, "hunter´s" rabbit and goat and ewe´s milk cheeses.
