Largo da Liberdade
Parish Church
At the small Largo da Liberdade square, in the heart of Barrancos, stands the town´s Igreja Paroquial, dating from the 18th century.
It was probably built on the site of another temple of worship, of which nothing is known, and it displays special architectural characteristics, very much alike those of the Chapel of Flowers, in neighbouring Spain.
There are three vaulted naves inside, with four secondary chapels.
Of these altars, the most outstanding is that of Nossa Senhora das Dores (Our Lady of Pain), of Baroque characteristics and different from all the others.
It is thought that it once belonged, like one of the bells, to the
Church of Noudar.
The fine painting representing Nossa Senhora do Carmo is also worth admiring.
The richly dressed statues of the Crucified Lord and of Our Lady of the Conception, patron saint of the town, glitter at the vaulted main chapel.
