Igreja de Noudar

Igreja de Noudar
In the perimeter that once englobed the town of Noudar, you can visit, apart from the castle with its fortress and keep, the church of Nossa Senhora do Desterro, belonging to this town that disappeared long ago and built in the 17th century, at the site where once stood the Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Ambas-as-Águas (Our Lady of Between-Both-Waters), from the 14th century.

The entrance portal faces the fortress and keep and exhibits a low bell-tower that is reached by an outer staircase.

It is said that some of its ancient religious treasures, such as the bell and the altar, were later transferred to the Parish Church of Barrancos.

Now empty of any ornaments, this place of worship is not less valuable, due to its antiquity and historical meaning.
