St. Sebastian Chapel of Almeirim

St. Sebastian Chapel of Almeirim
At the parish of Casével, less than four miles from Almeirim, Ermida de São Sebastião is very similar to its namesake of Castro Verde.

It was built on the hill of Bicadas, in a vast and isolated place, and dates from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Of rectangular shape, the exterior architecture is very simple, with a blue strip framing the entrance door.

The main façade is triangular, with a two-sided roof.

Inside there is only one nave with a main chapel in the Mannerist style.

Trompe-l’oeilpaintings can be seen in the retable.

Of humble aspect and small dimensions, it exhibits, like other chapels of Baixo Alentejo, a typical architectural style of popular characteristics.
