Aqueduct and water-mill
Aqueduct and water-mill
Ex-libris of Serpa, reproduced in countless postcards and tourist panflets, the aqueduct and the water-mill were built in the 17th century, at the same period as the
Palácio dos Marqueses de Ficalho, in order to supply the palace with water.
Supported by nineteen perfectly formed arches that stand on part of the town´s fortress walls, the aqueduct canal covers the distance from the water-mill to the palace.
The water is "born" near the south corner of the Rua dos Lagares; it is here that you can observe the water-mill with its ancestral bucket-conveyor and protected by an open structure with four arches.
