National Museum of Ethnology
The initial project of the Museu Nacional de Etnologia did not contemplate permanent exhibitions, building instead its activity around temporary exhibitions and reserves organized as study galeries.
Recently, however, the museum opened a gallery on rural life and a collection of pieces from the Wauja indians, in Amazonia (Brazil).
The reserves contemplate representative objects of all the peoples and cultures of the world, in a total of more than 3000 pieces.
The Rural Life Galleries follow criteria of greater representativity and are exclusivelly dedicated to the Portuguese rural context.
The library, specialized in ethnological and anthropological books, is open from tuesday to sunday, from 10 am to 6 pm.
