The tripers legend

The tripers legend
Those born in Oporto are known in the rest of the country as "tripeiros", a nickname that, according to the legend, is due to the sacrifice they made to support the Armada which was leaving to conquer Ceuta in 1415: it is said they offered the cruzaders all the meat available, keeping only the tripes or bowels, so that the city´s traditional dish is still, up to our days, "tripas à moda do Porto" (Oporto stewed tripes with beans).
