Paço Episcopal

Paço Episcopal
The Bishop´s Palace of Faro, situated in Vila Adentro (Old Town), next to the Seminary and to the mother church, was built in 1581.

It has a plain architecture and a magnificent library with Baroque characteristics, comissioned by Dom António Pereira da Silva, who was one of the greatest maecenases of Portugal in the 18th century.

It is also worth mentioning a set of decorated tiles with Roccoco characteristics and the portraits made by several artists, such as Marcello Leopardi.

The monument has always been the bishops' residence, so visits are still limited and it is advisable to book them in advance.
