Fortress of St. Catherine de Ribamar

Fortress of St. Catherine de Ribamar
On one end of Praia da Rocha, this fortress represented, along with the Fort of São João de Arade, on the other side of the river (in Ferragudo), the defense of Portimão´s town and port.

Originally constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries, a small chapel inside is devoted to St Catherine of Alexandria.

Now it is an open and pleasant place, inviting visitors to enjoy the peaceful views over the sea and the beach from one of its esplanades.

When the nights are warm in Summer, the Moon turns the sea into a "silvery mirror", in a magic game of light and shadows that intensify its romantic charm...

To the left, the construction of Portimão´s Marina goes on, and one can imagine the future zones of leisure and of different activities.
