Alcalar and Abicada
Alcalar and Abicada
Leaving Portimão in the direction of
Lagos, there are two important archaeological sites.
Taking as reference the road EN 125, the way to Alcalar is well marked: a village with an important necropolis dating from the neolithic period, which is believed to have been built between 2000 and 1600 BC.
Tombs of various kinds can be appreciated.
On the other side of the road and a bit further on, in Abicada, you can visit a significant roman villa, with various rooms decorated with the characteristic mosaics of this period, showing geometrical motives and other ornamentations.
In the same area, you can see the internacionally known golf courses, considered as some of the best of Europe and where contests of world championships are held.
