St. Anthony Church

St. Anthony Church
Igreja de Santo António is Estoril´s Mother Church and was built in 1527, on the site where there used to be a chapel devoted to São Roque.

The church we can now see passed through several catastrophes, such as the 1755 earthquake that left it partly destroyed, having been imediately restored between 1756 and 1758; in 1927 it suffered a great fire that almost destroyed completely, but also this time it was soon restored.

The Baroque fronton and, inside, the panels of decorated tiles portraying scenes from St.

Antony´s life and miracles are worthy of notice.
