Museu do Mar Rei Dom Carlos

Museu do Mar Rei Dom Carlos
Museu do Mar Rei Dom Carlos focuses the culture and traditions of Cascais and is divided into four sections: one dedicated to the town´s history, including prehistoric and paleontological vestiges; another focusing ethnologiocal aspects, such as the typical clothes of the region´s fishermen; a third is dedicated to subaquatic archaeology; finally, the fourth enables visitors to discover the story of local shipwrecks and of the treasures thus recovered.

The museum has an excellent library open to the public, where a 16th-century engraving by Georgius Braunnius, portraying Cascais and its bay, can be admired.
