Church of Our Lady of the Assumption

Church of Our Lady of the Assumption
The Igreja da Nossa Senhora da Assunção is the mother church of Cascais.

Of priceless value to those interested in the history of art, it was erected in the 16th century and still remains open for religious services.

Inside, it is worth admiring the altars in golden carved work, the stunning panels of decorated tiles, the chapel´s paitings of the Annunciation and also, on the walls, paintings by Josefa de Óbidos, criated between 1634 and 1684.

The patron saint, Our Lady of the Annunciation, was portrayed by Malhoa in 1900.
