This is the text of an advertisement published by the Guarda Municipal Tourism Council in 1967:

Guarda – City of snow

On the northeast flank of the Serra da Estrela, with magnificent views

Portugal´s highest city, at 3,465 ft

Monuments: Cathedral, in the Gothic style (14th century); Miserichord Church, Baroque construction (17th century); Miléu Chapel, Romanic style (11th century); Blacksmiths Tower and Castle with keep (12th century), belvedere at 3,465 ft.
