Saint Peter Chapel

Saint Peter Chapel
Capela de São Pedro is the oldest romanic vestige in this region.

Built near the entrance gate to the Moorish Castle (Castelo dos Mouros), to give spiritual confort to the military garrison, the only remains that can be found nowadays are in a ruinous state, but still atest to its monumentality.

Religious services at the chapel were abandoned at the beginning of the 16th century, which accounts to the degradation it suffered, all surrounded by the thick, wild vegetation of the Sintra mountains.

The path that leads to this chapel is one of the most intersting in Sintra, and shares the entrance to the castle.
