Jugada Granary

Jugada Granary
Located in Largo Latino Coelho (square), in Sintra´s historic centre, Celeiro da Jugada was an important landmark over times.

Initially, it was here that was paid the "jugada", a royal tax on landowners, based on the number of oxen used to work the farms.

Later, after the extinction of the religious orders in Portugal (1834), the granary was used to keep the treasures taken from churches and convents, that stayed there for quite a while.
