Fóia

Fóia
To get to know Monchique means having to climb the Serra (mountain range).

It is more satisfactory to walk slowly upwards to better appreciate the spectacular views along the road, winding and with tight curves.

The highest point of all the Algarve is Fóia, rising up to an altitude of nearly 1000 metres.

The extension of the panorama depends on the greater or lesser cloudiness, but when the sky is clear the horizons stretch until the Cape of St.

Vincent and the Serra da Arrábida (near Lisbon).

Picota is a little lower down (at about 750 m)and also affords a stunning scenery.

All the Serra´s slopes are worthy of being explored by foot, and there are always nooks where small streams run through the vegetation.

The fresh shadows under the trees, the different shades of green and the flowers´bright colours decorate all the footpaths.
