Marina de Lagos

Marina de Lagos
On the other side of the pedestrian bridge that opens to let sailing vessels of high masts pass through, the Marina invites you to enjoy the peaceful scenery of boats anchored in front of the esplanades.

On hot Summer nights, the pavements in front of the bars are full of people who prefer the cool sea-breeze to the sultry air in closed spaces.

Behind the main building, the picturesque Railway Station, decorated with ceramic tiles in various shades of green and contrasting with the modern architecture of the Marina's structures, is the final train stop.

Thus, those that chose this means of transport can enjoy a magnificent panorama: for the last mile or so, the track keeps getting closer to the coast and almost touches the long stretch of white sand known as Meia Praia.

We are face to face with one of Europe's largest bays.

This beach, about four kilometres long, is excellent for water-sports (informations are available at the Marina), although it can become unpleasant when the North wind blows.

It is these soft sands that bring the condelipas, popularly known as conquilhas (a small molusc), whose shells are easily found during low tide.

In Lagos, they bear this name because of the earl of Lipos, a great fan of their taste.

They are deliciopus cooked in olive oil, garlic and white wine...
