Chiado Museum
The Contemporary Art Museum has been lodged at the City’s St.

Francis Covent since 1911 and displays works from the 19th-century schools (Romanticism, Realism and Naturalism) and also 20th-century surrealistic, abstract and figurative art.

The collection includes Portuguese and international paintings, drawings, engravings and sculpture, tapestries, ceramics, furniture and personal objects.

The museum is arranged in rooms dedicated to different themes: Portuguese paintings from the first half of the 20th century, Columbano room, paintings from the second half of the 19th century and Portuguese modern art, besides a room for temporary displays.

The museum was improved in 1994 by the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte and may be visited from Wednesday to Sunday between 10 am and 6 pm, and on Tuesdays, from 2 to 6 pm.
