Castle´s Church of St. Mary
Castle´s Church of St. Mary
An authentic Gothic church, dating from the 14th century, it stands on the site where the Arabs had built a castle.
The doorway exhibits five archivolts.
Inside there are three naves supported by pillars decorated with naturalistic elements.
A bell-tower, erected in the 17th century, surmounts the nave on the south side.
At the summit there are three windows and also an eye-window.
Nowadays, apart from being a place of worship, the Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo is one of the region´s main tourist attractions.
