Budens
Budens
Budens has a mother church dating from the 18th century, with golden woodcarved altars, and two beautiful chapels (ermidas): Saint Anthony (Santo António), with a spectacular panorama of the green landscape that surrounds it, and Saint Lawrence (São Lourenço), with a fine altar displaying an 18th century tile panel.
Nearby, there are a few abandoned windmills, nowadays only a picturesque and decorative sight.
Another interesting place is the small chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe), built near the old road to Sagres, just outside Budens.
It lies isolated in the middle of a tree field, romantic in its simplicity, characteristic of the roman-gothic styles.
These fields witnessed the wanderings of prince Henry, who selected this small temple as his preferred place for religious devotion.
